"Poverty With A View"

Junkies, whores, and liquor stores
Gather together on the golden shores
Rock star rejects and trust fund defects
Mix with the vagabonds in soup line projects
The land of opportunity's a grand idea to be
Not quite taken so literally
'Cause some have it all but more have none
The difference is about a million to one

Paradise has a price
Paradise - Ain't it nice
Ya just do what you can to get through
In poverty with a view

We've got sunsets over the boulevard
We've got countless numbers of fallen stars
We've got miles and miles of exiles
Reaching hard for that dream lifestyle
Every once in a while someone grabs a hold
And they hold on tight and try not to let go
While everybody else just scrambles for scraps
Until eventually they fall off the map

Because paradise has a price
Paradise - Ain't it nice
Ya just do what you can to get through
In poverty with a view

Welfare lines and desperate crimes
Grow and grow as the Dow Jones climbs
The middle class is a thing of the past
When you're a paycheck away
from being out on your ass
The facts and figures show the gap's gettin' bigger
As the man in the alley pulls another trigger
To bring the bacon home - To each his own
It's dog eat dog all the way to the bone

Because paradise has a price
Paradise - Ain't it nice
Ya just do what you can to get through
In poverty with a view
